Josè Luis Magaña, 80, of Marseilles, Illinois, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 6, 1943 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to Vicente and Consuelo (Perez) Magaña.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Javier Magaña.
Josè is survived by his wife Yolanda, daughters Sandra (Greg) Serrato and Teresa (Pablo Ramirez) Magaña, both of Chicago, grandchildren Adriel (Jenna) Delacruz, Alena Delacruz and Liliana Serrato, four sisters and five brothers.
He married Yolanda Guajardo of Chicago in 1973. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Cursillos de Cristiandad and was an avid fisherman.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marseilles with Fr. Bo Schmitt officiating. Visitation was from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Dilley Cemetery in Dilley, at a later date.
Pallbearers included Juan Villalobos, Chuy Camacho, Eligio Soria, Augustin Nivlas, Josè Nievevs, and Omar Gonzales.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Seals-Campbell Funeral Home, Marseilles, Illinois.
