Pearsall bounced back from a tough stretch with a pair of wins in league play when they needed it most as they topped Uvalde 10-4 and Carrizo Springs 8-1 to remain in the playoff hunt in District 29-4A baseball last week.
“It was a good week for us,” PHS Head Coach Ray Talamantes said. “We really needed the two wins, it keeps us in the hunt for that final playoff spot for sure.
“The next three games will be crucial for us. If we continue to do the little things and execute offensively we will have a fighting chance.”
The Mavericks improved to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the league standings, currently a game ahead of fifth place Somerset. The Bulldogs currently hold a head-to-head victory over the Mavericks.
Pearsall was at league-leading Pleasanton Tuesday evening and will host Devine on Friday at Carroll Nations Field. The team then wraps up the regular season with a critical matchup against Somerset in a game that will likely determine the fourth and final playoff team.
