Velandra Corina Brochi
Velandra Corina Brochi of the Air Force Academy, won the 2023 USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-Around National Championship at the USA Gymnastics National event in Denton on April 6-8.
Brochi clinched all-around gold with a 39.125 in individual competition. Brochi posted a 9.800 on floor exercise and a 9.775 on vault, uneven bars and balance beam.
Brochi, of Round Rock, is a sophomore at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is the daughter of Marivel Rodriguez, formerly of Pearsall and the granddaughter of the late Corina and Pedro Rodriguez, also of Pearsall.
In only two years of collegiate competition, Brochi has earned numerous accolades. She was named a USAG First Team All-American after earning first-team honors in the All-Around, Beam and Bars. She was named Second-Team All-American in the Vault.
She was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, All MPSF First-Team in the All-Around and was named to the Second-Team in the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam. She was also named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week in February following her performance at the February 24 event in Sacramento State.
Brochi’s 39.250 all-around title marked the third-highest four-event total in Air Force history.
She set season or career-bests in all four of her events. Brochi’s 39.250 all-around title was the third-highest four-event total in Air Force history.
She earned a season-high 9.750 on the vault, tying for third-place, and tied a career-best 9.825 on bars.
She set career-bests on the balance beam with a 9.850 and a season-high 9.825 on floor.
This marked her first career MPSF weekly award.
