A sudden heavy rain downpour causing adverse driving conditions may have been partly to blame for the crash of an 18-wheel freighter down a highway embankment in Cotulla on Sunday morning, April 23. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at the IH-35 overpass at FM 468 shortly after 9:45 a.m. to find that a tractor-trailer rig had veered out of the southbound lanes of the interstate, gone through a crash barrier, and slid down the concrete overpass embankment, where it came to rest in a partial jackknife. The roadway under the interstate had been closed during a construction project. No serious injuries have been reported from the incident. The case is being investigated by La Salle County Deputy Alonzo Sanchez.
