NO ACTION ON REPLACING MEMBER WHO SERVED SINCE 2016
Pearsall ISD Board Member Tommy Navarro resigned his seat last week, citing personal matters as the reason for his departure.
Records filed at the Frio County Jail show Navarro turned himself in to authorities following a Class A misdemeanor charge for theft of property in November 2022.
The alleged theft occurred in early 2021.
“Please accept this formal letter of my resignation effective today, April 12, 2023, of my duties as School Board Trustee Position 5 due to personal matters that have unfortunately arisen and lead to my decision,” Navarro wrote in his letter to the board. “It has been a wonderful experience and has allowed me opportunities and to partake in an organization that I will always truly take pride in and have a deep love for.”
District Superintendent Dr. Nobert Rodriguez told the school board on Wednesday, April 19, that Navarro had submitted his resignation.
“Per legal policy a board member’s resignation becomes effective on the eighth day, which is today,” Rodriguez said.
Adriann Lozano made the motion to accept Navarro’s resignation and was supported unanimously.
Mari Benavides, who is seeking re-election for a second term, asked that the seat remain vacant until after the May 6 election.
“I would like for the board to consider that we wait for another month, after elections, to consider appointment,” Benavides said. “If that is the case, giving the opportunity for those who do not make election to ask for consideration.”
The board took no action on filling Navarro’s seat.
Navarro had served as a board trustee since 2016.
