PEARSALL, DILLEY AND COTULLA SPRINTERS HIGHLIGHT SLEW OF LOCAL ATHLETES IN ACTION AT REGIONAL TRACK MEETS THIS WEEK IN KINGSVILLE AND SEGUIN
Raeann Charo was a three-time area champion while Jose Gonzalez became the first athlete in school history to advance to regionals in all five of the events he competes in following the District 27 & 28 Area Track and Field Meet in Jourdanton last Wednesday, April 19.
Charo once again blew away the field in winning area titles in the 100m dash, 200m dash and long jump. Gonzalez was the second highest scoring male athlete at the event with 26 points. He advances to regional competition in the 100m dash, 400m relay, 800m relay, long jump and triple jump.
Allyse Leija also claimed an area title as she took first overall in the pole vault.
Cotulla regional qualifiers include Charo, Gonzalez, Leija, Sedelia Wilson-Larkin, Dadrian De Leon, Kristopher Jonas and Oscar Charo.
Boys’ area results are as follows: 100m dash, second, Jose Gonzalez, Cotulla, 11.70; 400m relay, third, Jose Gonzalez, Oscar Charo, Kristopher Jonas, Dadrian Deleon, Cotulla, 44.89; 800m relay, third, Jose Gonzalez, Alex Medina, Kristopher Jonas, Dadrian Deleon, Cotulla, 1:34.61; long jump, second, Jose Gonzalez, Cotulla, 19’6″; discus, sixth, Robert Sanchez, Cotulla, 109’1″; triple jump, third, Jose Gonzalez, Cotulla, 41’5″.
Girls’ area results are as follows: 100m dash, first, Raeann Charo, Cotulla, 12.88; 200m dash, first, Raeann Charo, Cotulla, 26.18; 100m hurdles, eighth, Josefina Garcia, Cotulla, 21.71; 400m relay, sixth, Aubriana Cantu, Quiana Mendez, Jasmine DelaGarza, Aracely Valles, Cotulla, 53.49; 800m relay, fifth, Daniela Flores, Quiana Mendez, Jasmine DelaGarza, Araceli Valles, Cotulla, 1:54.66; 1,600m relay, seventh, Carisia Rodriguez, Isabella Gonzalez, Raeann Galindo, Sedelia Wilson-Larkin, Cotulla, 4:44.34; long jump, first, Raeann Charo, Cotulla, 16’7″, sixth, Aubriana Cantu, Cotulla, 14’8″; discus, third, Sedelia Wilson-Larkin, Cotulla, 93’5″; pole vault, first, Allyse Leija, Cotulla, 8’9″, fifth, Jasmine DelaGarza, Cotulla, 8’, seventh, Kate Guzman, Cotulla, 6’6″.
The top four athletes in each event advance to the regional competition. The Region IV 3A Track and Field Championships are on April 28 and 29 at Seguin’s Matador Stadium.
