La Salle County officials are scratching their heads this week over what may have caused a power line pole on North Baylor Street to snap, bringing down electric lines near the Super 8 and La Quinta hotels on Sunday evening, April 30. The sheriff’s office has indicated that deputies dispatched to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. found no indications of a crash and no evidence that the pole had been struck. Preliminary reports suggest that the pole may have been weakened by a series of storm front that passed through the county in the preceding days, including spells of high wind, although inclement weather had passed by the time that the pole broke. North Baylor Street was closed for 12 hours while repairs were undertaken by American Electric Power. (Courtesy photo)
