County jobless rate drops to 3.5 percent, WSA reports

The Frio County unemployment rate dropped to 3.5 percent in March, down from the 3.8 percent rate of the previous month in the Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) jobs report.
The unemployment rate is lower than the 3.9 percent rate of the 13-county Workforce Development Area and lower than the 4.2 percent rate for Texas. Frio County’s rate was fourth lowest in the 13-county WDA area and 330 people are actively looking and available for work.
Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) released March 2023 unemployment data for the Alamo Region including Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, and Wilson counties.
Workforce Solutions Alamo reports the March 2023 unadjusted unemployment rate for the eight-county San Antonio-New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) decreased to 3.9 percent, lower than the 4.3 rate in February 2023, according to reports released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 3.9 percent unemployment rate represents 50,202 people seeking meaningful employment out of a total labor force of 1,287,817 people. The region’s March 2023 unemployment rate is lower than the state’s unadjusted (actual) rate of 4.2 percent.

Since March of 2022, 44,900 jobs were added in the MSA, resulting in an annual increase of 4.1 percent.
The labor force grew by 38,608 people year-over-year to 1,287,817 in March 2023 up from 1,249,209 in March 2022.
