La Salle County natives (L-R) Leah Sanchez and Elisa Gonzalez have enrolled in the county’s annual Summer Work Program and have been hired at the sheriff’s office to undertake a variety of clerical duties, including filing, sorting, and related support for the administrative staff. Sanchez will be senior at Cotulla High School in the fall semester and expects to pursue studies for a career in nursing. She believes the work experience she gains from the county’s summer program will help her learn office-related organizational skills and business experience. Gonzalez is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in arts and entertainment technology and believes that the program will help her accumulate office skills and experience in the professional environment when she pursues a career in a media-based company. The county’s six-week Summer Work Program continues through Friday, July 14, and includes a salary, on-the-job training and introductions to work in county government, law enforcement, clerical support and administration as well as outdoor work for those applying for positions with the county’s parks, recreation and infrastructure crews.
