29-4A ALL DISTRICT SOFTBALL
GARZA, MORALES EARN OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE MVP HONORS
Despite finishing as the league runner-up, Pearsall’s regional quaterfinalist Lady Mavs named 11 players to the 29-4A all-district team and had two earn league superlatives on the softball squad.
Senior Sophia Garza was named the District Offensive Most Valuable Player while sophomore Kristen Morales was named the District Defensive MVP.
Five players earned first-team all-district accolades as Ebony Garza was named first-team shortstop, Anisty Martinez and Deranda Talamantes were first-team outfield, Caitlyn Rodriguez earned first-team pitcher and Maddie Bradley was named first-team first base.
Alytris Rodriguez was named second-team all-district at second base and Carissa Elizondo was the district’s second-team catcher.
Alayna Zapata and Jesslyn Gutierrez were both given honorable mention.
The Lady Mavs went 20-10 this year and were second in District 29-4A at 10-2. Pearsall won bi-district and area titles with wins over Rockport-Fulton and Zapata before falling in a best-of-three regional quarterfinal series to Alice.
