DILLEY AMONG 32 TEAMS VYING FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN COLLEGE STATION
Dilley’s 7-on-7 football team recently defeated three of four opponents in qualifying competition in Poth to advance to the state tournament June 21-23 in College Station.
The Wolves competed at the Poth State Qualifing Tournament on Friday, June 2. Only two teams from the 16-team field are eligible to qualify for the state tournament. Dilley qualified in Division III, which consists of teams in Class 1A-3A, Division II. They will be among 32 teams competing in the Division III State 7-on-7 Tournament in College Station June 22-24.
Competing in Pool A at the event, the Wolves opened SQT play with a 26-7 win over Karnes City. They then knocked off George West 19-6 before falling to Poth 26-7. With a 2-1 mark, Dilley advanced to the state qualifying round where they crushed Santa Rosa 33-14 to advance to the state tournament.
Dilley 7-on-7 team members include Elias Aguirre, Aiden Gonzalez, Juan Alberto Garcia, Joe Aguilar, Armando Gauna, Leve Lopez, Johnny Rodriquez, Seth Cano, Roman Martel, Ethan Santos, Juan Garcia III, Bubba Reyes, Dorian Aranda and Eric Rodriquez.
The Texas State 7-on-7 Organization is a private organization not associated with either the UIL or the THSCA that promotes the game of football through 7-on-7 competitions.
State Qualifying Tournaments (SQT’s) are held throughout the state and are hosted by individuals selected by the Organization’s SQT Director.
State pool play in Division 3 begins at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 22 with additional games at 2:30 and 4 p.m. Division 3 Bracket Championship play begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 23. All teams will play one game on Friday.
