Frio County sheriff’s deputy Luis A. Maldonado and his wife, Sherry, participated in the 23rd annual Texas Police Games in El Paso in mid-June. More than 1,200 law enforcement participants from across the state came to compete in various Olympic-style games. The Maldonados were the first couple in Frio County history to participate as a cycling team and were sponsored by Sheriff Mike Morse; the couple competed in the time trial cycle race and the 30-mile cycling road races, earning top spots on the podium four times and bringing home two gold medals.
