FREE BACKPACKS, SUPPLIES…
La Salle County students readying for the new school year and their families will have access to a wide range of resources and free supplies at the annual Health Fair, scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, in the AB Alexander Convention Center.
Hosted by the Cotulla – La Salle County Chamber of Commerce this year, the event will include distribution of free backpacks to all those who attend, as well as a host of materials on family wellness, physical, mental and spiritual health, community programs, and service providers.
Booths will be operated by local healthcare providers, community organizations and government agencies, with staff on hand to answer questions and offer contact information for parents.
The county government and a number of donors have collaborated to help provide free school supplies to the children.
Members of the La Salle Fire Rescue will also be present to offer free health screening, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, and other assistance.
There will be a special demonstration by a local martial arts team, and visitors will also have access to foods and other supplies made available by the South Texas and local food banks.
According to Melinda Rheinfeldt at the Chamber of Commerce, the organization has picked up responsibility for the health fair again this year after years of operation by the First United Methodist Church. Rheinfeldt told Cotulla city councilors this month that she hopes the back-to-school event remains an annual attraction for La Salle County’s families.
