TRUCKER DIDN’T STOP, DPS SAYS
The Texas Highway Patrol has begun an investigation into the death of a motorcyclist after a collision near Gardendale during the early morning hours of Friday, July 21.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene near Milemarker 73 in the northbound lanes of IH-35 shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday to find that local resident Jose Raul Ramirez, 34, had been killed when he was run over by an 18-wheel freight truck.
Reports on the case indicate that Ramirez had been driving a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he collided with the back of a freight truck and was thrown from his bike.
Investigators have stated that Ramirez fell onto the roadway after the collision.
The Highway Patrol confirmed in a brief statement this week that evidence shows the man was run over a number of times by other freight traffic but that the first vehicle to strike his body did not stop.
That truck driver, according to investigators, remains unidentified.
Ramirez was declared dead at the scene of the crash.
Responders included La Salle Sheriff’s Deputies Jose Pargas, Giovanni Ayala and Katrina Hernandez, Sgt. Oscar Macias, and medics and firefighters of the La Salle Fire Rescue along with Highway Patrol troopers.
