Moore celebrated its third annual Summer Fest and announced winners in its Barbecue Cookoff Contest.
“Even in the scorching South Texas Heat, the Moore Community came together for a remarkable event, Summer Fest,” Moore Community Improvement Club representative Shelly Delgado said. “The third annual gathering was held recently and the Moore Community Improvement Club is excited to extend a heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible donors, volunteers, participants, and attendees who made it a resounding success.”
A number of teams competed for bragging rights in the barbecue cookoff and several took home prizes in a number of categories.
“The cook-off contest was undoubtedly the highlight of the day, as local chefs and grill masters showcased their culinary skills.”
Winners by category included: Chicken Category – first place, Borracho’s BBQ, second, Smoking Too Loud BBQ, third, She Wolf Pack; Ribs – first, Smoking Too Loud BBQ, second, Cruz Up N Smoke BBQ, third, Borracho’s BBQ; Brisket – first, Mann’s Meat, second, Borrracho BBQ, third, She Wolf Pack; Chef’s Choice – Ed’s BBQ.
“There was one team that truly stood out, impressing the judges with their culinary skills across all categories, and they deserve a special mention,” Delgado noted. “The overall cook-off winner was Borracho’s BBQ.”
The Cornhole Tournament also brought participants and spectators alike to the edge of their seats.
The 3CB Team took first place overall while Ray & Raven finished in second.
The club also extended its thanks to the Moore Volunteer Fire Department for their help at the event. “Their active involvement allowed the Moore Community Improvement Club to offer prepared sausage wraps and donated water for sale during the event,” Delgado said. “The dedication and hard work of the fire department volunteers, who remained on call throughout the festivities, exemplified their selfless service to the community, all delivered with genuine smiles on their faces.
“A big thank you to these heroes.”
Delgado also lauded the vendors who set up in the pop-up market. Vendors La Preparada and Southern Charm Rope both earned door prizes.
“We cannot thank our vendors enough for providing entertainment, moral, and excellent customer service to all attendees and volunteers,” Delgado said. “We appreciate them for their contributions to this success, it would not be possible without the generosity exhibited by our donors and buyers.”
She also extended her thanks to the many businesses for donating services to the event at no charge. They provided resources like generators, trash services, and portable toilets, at no cost.
“This remarkable support from these businesses demonstrates their commitment to the community, and Moore is fortunate to have such caring business owners and operators.
“Summer Fest was not just a celebration of good food, music and friendly competitions; it was also a collective effort to raise funds for operations of the Moore Community Center. We are so appreciative that through the immense support and contributions of our attendees and donors we will continue to provide outlet for community gatherings. Additionally, these funds will be utilized in various areas of improvement outlined by the Moore Community Improvement Club.”
Delgado added that the organization is always open to ideas for using the funds in specific ways, noting that the next monthly meet of the club is on Wednesday, August 2 at 7 p.m.
“Such a remarkable event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and donors,” she said. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to each and everyone of you who contributed your resources, time, and efforts to make Summer Fest an unforgettable experience. Additionally, we are immensely grateful to our county officials who generously donated items for our silent auction and the Frio County Sheriff’s Department for their support and encouragement throughout the event including the judging of the brisket contest.
“Your belief in community-driven initiatives like Summer Fest inspires us to continue organizing such gatherings in the future.”
Delgado also praised the MCIC officers, members and volunteers for their time spent planning and prepping and working after the event to clean up and tear down.
“You are the backbone of the community and your leadership is appreciated and an inspiration to others,” she said. “As we bid adieu to Summer Fest this year, we eagerly look forward to the next edition, where we hope to see even more smiling faces especially on volunteers. Community events like Summer Fest rely on the invaluable support of volunteers, but our numbers have been declining, putting the future of these gatherings at risk.
“Without enough volunteers, event organizers struggle to manage all aspects, leading to diminished event quality or even cancellation. Losing such events not only deprives the community of valuable opportunities to come together and celebrate shared values but also weakens the sense of belonging and positive social interactions.”
Delgado said that the club is calling on community members to step up and volunteer their time and skills, no matter how small the contribution.
“Together, let’s preserve the spirit of togetherness and create lasting memories that will shape our community’s fabric for generations to come.”
