Lance Monroe Storey

Storey, 49

Lance Monroe Storey, 49, of Cotulla, died on Monday, July 31, 2023. He was born on March 21, 1974, the youngest of Denise and Dudley Storey, III.

He is preceded in death by his father Dudley Storey III, grandparents Bill Highsmith, Dudley (Jr.) and LaNell Storey, and great-grandparents HD (Sr.) and Annie Lee Storey, all of Cotulla.

Lance is survived by his wife Linda, his children Caitlyn, Tiffany, Andrew and Alexis Storey and grandchildren Adlee Storey and Blaze Lewis, mother Denise Storey, siblings Susan Rubio (DJ), Dudley “Bubba” Storey IV, Leighton “Sugie” Storey and Carle Storey (JoLee) along with his grandmother Florence “Flossie” Highsmith, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Lance was raised in Cotulla where he lived the majority of his life. He was a 1992 graduate of Cotulla High School and grew up with his parents and siblings on the family ranches in the brush country of La Salle County and called the Altito Ranch “home” for the last years of his life.

He worked alongside both his grandfathers, his father and both brothers learning many a skill and trade – he enjoyed the cattle and horse operations on the ranches, riding along with his grandfather, Dudley Jr., and learning mechanical skills from his grandfather, Bill. He also enjoyed learning from his father to move dirt “and iron” with heavy equipment. Lance liked to cook, both in the kitchen and outside, whether it be on the open flame of a campfire in the brush or his barbeque pits. Fish fries on Sundays watching football, playing shuffleboard he learned at Ruby’s Lounge, music and being the referee of family softball games and sharing stories of being on the road in his Peterbilt “moving iron” were how he spent much of his time in his later years.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, riding horseback, bikes and digging in the dirt with his brothers and sisters.

Visitation was held on Friday, August 4 at Peters Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 5 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment followed at the Cotulla East Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
