Pizza Fondue
I discussed this recipe with my daughter… and in trying to explain it, I had to explain what fondue is. I told her it’s like queso… so this dish would be like a pizza queso, so you would dip the cheese or a piece of bread instead of chips. And now I’ll be making “that pizza queso” pretty soon…
Best Loved Slow Cooker Recipes, by Crock-Pot at Publications International, 2006
Pizza Fondue
Makes 20 to 25 appetizer servings
½ pound bulk Italian sausage
1 cup chopped onion
2 jars (26 ounces each) meatless pasta sauce
4 ounces thinly sliced ham, finely chopped
1 package (3 ounces) sliced pepperoni, finely chopped
¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into ¾ -inch cubes
1 loaf Italian or French bread, cut into 1 -inch cubes
- Cook and stir sausage and onion in large skillet over medium-high heat until sausage is browned. Drain and discard fat.
- Transfer sausage mixture to slow cooker. Stir in pasta sauce, ham, pepperoni, and pepper flakes. Cover; cook on low 3 to 4 hours. Serve warm fondue with mozzarella cheese and bread cubes.
Amanda’s note: never be afraid to make it your own. I do NOT like ham. I would leave out the ham and balance with extra of the other proteins.
