HERNANDEZ EARNS 14TH PLACE FINISH FOR WOLVES; RODRIGUEZ PACES LADY WOLVES
In action at the much larger Floresville Cross Country Invitational, Dilley’s cross country teams continued to perform well as the Wolves finished fifth overall in the Class 1A-4A division.
Dilley competed in field of 16 teams and both divisions featured over 150 runners.
“Floresville was a very tough course with rolling hills, stout competition, and had over 15 teams in attendance,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “Our varsity boys cracked a top five finish as a team in the 1A-4A division behind Comal Canyon, Floresville, Mathis, and La Vernia.
“All of our girls and boys improved their times by more than a minute and we’re proud of how all our runners competed on a tough course with over 100 runners in every division.”
Xavier Hernandez paced the Wolves as he finished 14th overall in his division with a time of 18:53.95.
Anthony Guerra was 24th overall at 19:20.24, Brazos Viesca placed 36th with a time of 19:51.67 and Josiah Benavides was 44th at 20:07.27.
Angel Martinez finished 47th at 20:16.55.
Chloe Rodriguez led the Lady Wolves as she placed 50th overall in the varsity girls’ division with a time of 14:29.98.
Edelyn Rodriguez was right behind her in 54th at 14:38.03. Jewlea Tate was 85th at 15:29.21 and Klarissa Vasquez came in 113th with a time of 16:14.55.
The Lady Wolves competed in a field of over 150 runners.
In junior varsity action, Clause Castaneda was 16th for the Wolves while Nehemiah Osio was 76th and Amos Osio finished 114th.
Azaela Espinoza came in 24th overall for the Lady Wolves JV team while Janessa Mendez was 83rd.
Dilley’s cross country teams will be in action at the Medina Valley Panther XC Invitational on Saturday, August 26 in Castroville.
