Russell Todd “Rusty” Furnace, 73, died during the early morning hours of Monday, August 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 25, 1950 in Bryan, Texas to Albert and Pauline Furnace.

He is preceded in death by his parents,

Rusty is survived by his wife Kathryn, sons Justin and Russell, daughters-in-law Lori and Tonya, grandchildren Conrad, Cameron, Cooper, Raegan and Bailee. He is also survived by his three sisters Susan McCourt and husband Mark, Donna Soape and husband Roger, Lori Loobeck and husband Ron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Rusty enjoyed the South Texas brush country of Frio County, and more specifically, white-tailed deer. He had a knowledge and expertise of the species. A retired landman, rancher, avid hunter, and guide, these jobs ensured the majority of his life was spent in the brush. Rusty was a pillar of the South Texas hunting world and was heavily involved in some of the first commercial hunting operations in the state.

Rusty’s wishes were to have no funeral services and to be cremated. His ashes will be spread across his ranch, per his request.
