A week after struggling through injuries at the annual Pearsall Volleyball Invitational, the Lady Mavs lost a pair of non-district outings last week to Cotulla and Del Rio.
“Throughout the tournament, we lost multiple athletes due to injuries and had to pull up athletes from our JV team to help,” PHS Head Coach Erika Tellez said of her team’s recent struggles with injuries. “Overall, the athletes that came up and helped us, adjusted well and our original varsity girls did their part in helping them on the court and making sure they were doing their job.”
Pearsall took on Cotulla on Tuesday, August 29 in a non-district outing and after winning the first two sets, fell 3-2 in five sets.
The Lady Mavs took the first set 25-13 and the second 25-19. Cotulla was the able to rally to win three straight to close out the contest. The Cowgirls took 26-24, 25-14 and 15-11 decisions to earn the victory.In action on Friday, September 1, Pearsall took on Class 6A Del Rio and fell in three straight sets.
The Lady Rams won via 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 scores.
Pearsall will open league play on Tuesday, September 12 at home against Floresville. The Lady Mavs hosted St. Mary’s Tuesday evening and will take on D’Hanis this Friday in Pearsall.
