BANDERA CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
HAMPERED BY INJURY, RODRIGUEZ SITS OUT EVENT
Cotulla’s top female runner was out of action this week as the team’s travelled to the Hill Country to compete in the Bandera Bulldog Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 9.
Carisia Rodriguez, the Cowgirls’ top performer at each meet this season was hampered by a lingering injury that kept her out of action in Bandera.
“We were missing our lead Cowgirl varsity runner due to a lingering injury,” CHS Head Coach Jose Olvera said. “On a good note, however, we had a new addition to our high school team and a couple more to our middle school teams.
“Our Cowboys and Cowgirls continue to shave a few seconds off their previous times. Freshman Angela Vargas led the Cowgirls and newcomer Homero Flores transitioned well to the junior varsity team. He ran hard and brought home a medal.”
At the sub-varsity levels, the coach pointed out notable performers from the Bandera meet.
“Eighth grader Emmanuel Lopez and seventh grader Pablo Garcia paced the Cowboys, placing them in the top six and came home with medals,” the coach said. “Cowgirls Leila Olvera and Jazzlyn Olivas led their respective teams. The girls continue to improve and are closing the gap amongst themselves, which is great for the team. I am proud of all my runners’ efforts.”
Results are as follows: varsity boys: Paul Gonzales, 39th, Jesus Alcocer, 65th; varsity girls: Alessandra Garcia, 65th, Isabella Gonzales, 74th, Juliana Garcia, 89th; JV boys: Homero Flores, 11th; eighth grade boys: Emmanuel Lopez, 6th, Jarek Gonzales, 24th, Jose Sauceda, 41st; eighth grade girls: Leila Olvera, 39th, Carina Rodriguez, 42nd, Jacky Alba, 43rd, Anavae Segura, 51st; seventh grade boys: Pablo Garcia, fourth, Royce Garcia, 36th, Rayce Garcia, 37th, Enrique Garcia, 53rd; seventh grade girls: Jazlyn Olivas, 24, Bella Rodriguez, 57, Baily Rodriguez, 66th.
