Uvalde’s Joe Foley has been named the new Medina Electric Coop Voting District 2 representative following a round of interviews by a selection committee.
Former director Jim Gates resigned from Medina EC’s board of directors at the February board meeting, opening a seat to represent Voting District 2.
Voting District 2 represents seven of Medina EC’s 17 counties, including Atascosa, Edwards, Frio, Kinney, Real, Uvalde and Zavala counties. Members with meters in Voting District 2 were solicited by postcard and email to apply for the open seat.
Applications were accepted through May and nine applications were received. Qualified members were interviewed in June by a selection committee comprising three board members, one from each voting district. Based on the qualifications and interview, Joe Foley of Uvalde was selected to fill the vacancy. He will fill the seat until it is up for election in 2025.
MEC is run by a nine-person board of directors. Each one of MEC’s three voting districts has a position open for election each year. Elections generally take place in September and co-op members who wish to run for a position on the co-op’s board of directors can do so through petition in the spring.
