LADY WOLVES FINISH SIXTH; SHORTHANDED WOLVES STRUGGLE AT BULLDOG INVITATIONAL
Dilley’s Lady Wolves were sixth overall in action at the Bandera Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 9.
The Wolves encountered some adversity at the event as one runner was out sick and another was injured during the race.
“On the boys’ side we ended up short handed as one of our top runners got injured during the race and one was out sick,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “Our girls side ended up sixth in a tough field of competition. They ran against the number one, state-ranked team in Class 4A, Fredericksburg, and a state qualifying team in 3A, Lytle, but we still managed to beat some of our district opponents.”
The coach said facing top talent this season has gone a long way in prepping his team for the district meet.
“Almost all our girls ran their best times of the season,” he said. “And so far this season, we’ve been able to beat five out of six of our district opponents and it’s looking good for district competition.
“I’m super proud of how all our athletes came out to compete in a tough field, especially our middle school athletes; we had six medalists and they’re really coming along. I’m looking forward to our progress and hoping we peak at the right time when district comes around.”
