ISLANDER SPLASH CC INVITATIONAL – CORPUS CHRISTI

Cotulla’s young cross country squad hit the road for the long trip to the Islander Splash Cross Country Invitational in Corpus Christi on Saturday, September 15.
The annual event proves to be one of the toughtest event’s of the season and is annually rough in hot and humid conditions.
“As always, it was full of great runners and a lot of humidity and heat,”CHS Head Cross Country Coach Jose Olvera said. “We are still lacking runners due to injuries.
“Our roster included only high school runners and we decided to run everyone in the junior varsity division since we had no complete teams.”
Angela Vargas led the Cowgirls while Paul Gonzales paced the Cowboys and was able to earn a top ten medal.
Gonzales was eighth overall for the Cowboys while Jesus Alcocer was 32nd.
Vargas was 37th for the Cowgirls while Alessandra Garcia finished 39th, Isabella Gonzales was 74th and Juliana Garcia came in 91st.
Cotulla’s cross country teams will be in action in Pearsall this week as they participate in the annual Maverick Cross Country Invitational.
