Police officers examine the scene of a drive- by shooting on Comal street in Pearsall on Friday, September 8, recovering several shell casings. A single suspect has been listed as wanted in connection with the crime.
Pearsall police have announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for Raul Martinez, listed as the prime suspect in a drive-by shooting last week on Comal Street that left a man seriously injured.
Police say the Friday, September 8, shooting that occurred on the west side of town near a popular barbecue eatery remains an ongoing investigation, but have identified habitual offender Martinez, 44, as the man wanted in connection with the assault.
The Frio County Sheriff’s Office has reported that deputies were dispatched to West Comal Street near IH-35 after a number of calls regarding an apparent shooting in progress around 7:20 p.m.
Lt. Nathaniel Ximenez confirmed this week that officers arrived on the scene to find two individuals who said they had been chased and shot at by the driver of a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
Deputies assisted police with a search of the crime scene that stretched across the busy thoroughfare and discovered a number of spent shell casings in front of the restaurant.
Investigating officers were able to watch video surveillance footage from area businesses to cross-reference with witness statements and identify Martinez. A report on the case states that the truck driven by Martinez was later found and seized as evidence.
Martinez has outstanding felony warrants for deadly conduct and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Martinez is well known to law enforcement and is believed to have several associates in the immediate and surrounding area,” the police lieutenant said. “If any person has information on his whereabouts, please contact the police department immediately. Anyone found to be assisting or aiding him will be charged accordingly.”
