DILLEY CROSS COUNTRY
DILLEY CC TEAM SPLIT, COMPETE IN ROUND ROCK, PEARSALL OVER THE WEEKEND
Dilley’s cross country teams split up this week to compete in action at the HOKA McNeil Invitational in Round Rock on Friday, September 22 and at the Maverick Stampede in Pearsall Saturday morning.
The Wolves and Lady Wolves varsity squads traveled to Round Rock for the McNeil meet, the event is held at the site of the UIL State Cross Country Championships.
Dilley’s sub-varsity teams were in action at Pearsall.
The Wolves were 17th in a field of 37 teams at the event while the Lady Wolves were 28th in a field of 38 squads. Both competed in the Class 1A-3A division.
“I’m super proud of both boys’ and girls’ teams and how they came out to compete on the state course with some of the best in the state,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “I’m feeling like we’re going to peak at the right time during district and I’m expecting some good results in due time.”
Varsity boys’ results are as follows: 70th, Xavier Hernandez, 19:01, 84th, Anthony Guerra, 19:20, 100th, Brazos Viesca, 19:33, 101st, Angel Martinez, 19:34, 112th, Josiah Benavides, 19:45, 187th, Julian Cruz, 21:15. The Wolves competed in a field of 290 runners.
Varsity girls’ results are as follows: 56th, Chloe Rodriguez, 13:35, 128th, Jnessa Nickles, 14:45, 190th, Edelyn Rodriguez, 15:29, 201st, Azaela Espinosa, 15:44, 212th, Lily Ayala, 15:55, 238th, Klarissa Vasquez, 16:36, 244th, Jewlea Tate, 16:42. The Lady Wolves were in a field of 294 runners.
In action at Pearsall, Nehemiah Osio was 35th for the JV Wolves with a time of 26:01. Janessa Mendez was 23rd with a time of 22:21 in the JV girls’ field.
The eighth grade Pups were fourth overall at the event. Team results are as follows: third, Joshua Montoya, 12:30, 25th, Lupe Rodriguez, 15:52, 28th, Isaiah Kinsey, 16:01, 36th, Elliot Pichardo, 17:04, 45th, Tristan Goins, 18:08.
Zoey Ortegon was sixth overall for the eighth grade girls with a time of 15:30 while Jaelyn Rodriguez was 13th at 16:36.
Seventh grade boys’ results are as follows: fourth, Elijah Montoya, 14:14, 21st, Zaydrain Sauceda, 16:27, 41st, Juan Rodriguez, 19:05, 47th, James Goins, 20:31.
Seventh grade girls’ results are as follows: sixth, Harvest Viesca, 16:38, 26th, Jessell Duran, 21:10, 39th, Peyzlee Ybarra, 29:28.
Dilley will compete at the Ricardo Gallegos Invitational in Crystal City in their final non-district tune-up on Saturday, September 30.
