Five Cotulla High School members of the Mariachi Cotuleno have been awarded places in the Region 11 Mariachi Band, representing the largest group ever to join the ensemble from La Salle County.
The band students traveled to McCollum High School in San Antonio on Saturday, September 23, to audition for the coveted seats on the region band, coming home with places in both Group 1 and 2.
Students from across South Texas competed for seats in the groups.
Marko Cantu has been given a seat in Group 1 on guitarra de golpe. Joining Group 2 at the region mariachi band will be Alejandro Coronado on violin, Jesus Garza on trumpet, Jaden Linares on guitarron, and Arelie Ramirez on guitarra de golpe.
The students will travel to Southwest Legacy High School in late January for two days of clinics and rehearsals with the region band before the group gives a public concert.
