Frio County Judge Rochelle Camacho is joined by elected officials and staff in proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month
Frio County Judge Rochelle Camacho signed a proclamation Wednesday, October 4, designating Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, and encouraging education and intervention.
“Domestic violence affects every person in Frio County, either as a victim or survivor, or as a family member, friend, neighbor or co-worker,” the judge read from her proclamation. “This year’s national theme, ‘Domestic Violence and Underserved Communities,’ personifies our commitment to serving survivors by acknowledging, invigorating and redirecting ourselves to the goal of eliminating domestic violence.”
The county judge was joined by commissioners, elected county government officers and staff in announcing the designation, which is likewise being marked in county government offices across the country this month.
“We are working to provide quality services and assistance to domestic violence survivors,” Camacho said, “responding to emergency calls and criminal justice proceedings.
“Domestic violence programs and other professionals and advocates of non-violence have joined with Southwest Family Life Center to support each other in our work,” the county judge said, “and to provide a central source of information.”
During October, Southwest Family Life Center will intensify its efforts to promote public understanding of family violence, according to the county judge, and is increasing its sensitivity to victims of family violence, “emphasizing the need for citizen involvement in efforts to reduce family violence through public education and changing public attitudes.”
