Pearsall’s Mavericks finished 22nd overall while Lady Mav Angelyna Montes was 59th in action at the 2023 UIL Region IV Cross Country Championships at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Tuesday, October 24.
“Our boys had a tough meet overall but we went out and competed and gave ourselves a chance which unfortunately, didn’t go out the way we intended,” PHS Head Coach Ricky Medrano said. “The boys stayed resilient and showed toughness. In the end, we gained the experience going forward for this young group.”
On the girls’ side, Montes was the lone Pearsall participant.
“Angelyna had a great race,” the coach said. “She went out strong with the pack and executed the race plan but fell just short. She’s a fearless competitor and I’m excited for what she’s going to accomplish these next three years.
“Overall, I’m extremely proud of this group for all the hard work they put in all year long, for being consistent all season long, taking care of their bodies and managing to be injury-free all season long. They leaped over a barrier this year that will carry over towards next year as we have a ton of potential to do big things next year.”
Results from the event are as follows: Chris Martinez, 93rd place, 20:05.81, Derek Rodriguez, 103rd, 20:27.65, CJ Garza, 116th, 20:49.46, Ayden Rodriguez, 144th, 21:37.36, Dylan Ortiz, 146th 21:42.62, Romeo Vega, 152nd, 21:54.48, Jose Ortegon, 157th, 22:25.73.
Montes was 59th in her field with a time of 13:45.60.
