The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a prepared statement last week that one of its officers has been charged with a misdemeanor and was placed on administrative leave before he resigned.
Sheriff Anthony Zertuche wrote in a letter to the community on Friday, November 17, that Deputy Eusebio Garcia had been the subject of an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety Ranger Division over an alleged incident involving an assault.
As a result of that investigation, the sheriff said, Deputy Garcia was placed on paid administrative leave on Nov. 8. The officer was arrested shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 on a single Class C misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Records show the officer was released on bond after two hours.
The officer’s status was changed to leave without pay on Nov. 17, pending the outcome of an administrative hearing, the sheriff said.
Garcia resigned from his position Saturday, Nov. 18, before a hearing could be held. He had been employed as a sheriff’s deputy in La Salle County since 2022.
