Seven local football players have earned places on the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Team, which annually recognizes senior athletes, trainers and managers who excel in the classroom as well as on the field or court.
Pearsall’s Diego Carrasco and Gilbert ‘Tre’ Marquez were named to the second-team while Ryan Hughes, Cody Sekula and Julius Carrizales were also given honorable mention.
Cotulla’s Robert Sanchez was a first-team all-state selection while Isaac Cerda was given honorable mention.
Nominated students must be an athlete, student trainer or manager in good standing with the team; of good moral character; a senior and have an overall grade point average of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9-11 and courses completed from grade 12).
