Volunteer firefighters combat a furious blaze in eastern Frio County last week after two vehicles crashed into each other. Investigations into the crash continue and may show that limited visibility played a part in the collision.

Dense fog may be to blame for a two-vehicle collision that ended in flames near the intersection of CR 1670 and FM 462 in far eastern Frio County on Friday, January 5, according to emergency first responders.
A preliminary report on the case shows that Moore volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the county road after reports were made regarding a wreck involving a pickup truck and sport utility vehicle.
“Initially, we were told only one of the vehicles involved was on fire,” Moore VFD spokesperson Stephanie Earls said. “However, en route to the station we received a second call that the other vehicle had caught fire.”
Earls said when fire crews arrived at the scene of the fire, the vehicles were fully engulfed in flames and paramedics were tending to a victim who had been burned in the blaze. Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to University Hospital in San Antonio; the driver who suffered burns was later transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment.
Officers have indicated that an investigation into the crash may show that heavy fog may have reduced visibility on the rural roads last week, resulting in the two vehicles colliding.
