Ramirez’ career in law enforcement stretched over 30 years

Jose “Joe” Ramirez
A Frio County constable elected to his first term of office in 2020 has died after struggling with health issues for the past month.
After being admitted to a San Antonio hospital in early December, Pct. 1 Constable Jose “Joe” Ramirez succumbed to illness on Thursday, January 4.
Before securing the bid to serve as the constable for Precinct 1, Ramirez had 29 years of law enforcement experience, serving as a police officer from 1989 to 1992 and as a Frio County Sheriff’s deputy from 1993-94.
He entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy in 1995 and served as a trooper from 95-96 and DPS Trooper Criminal Law Enforcement from 1997-2022. He was a DPS CLE Special Agent for 16 years until his retirement in 2018.
The constable made the decision last year not to seek another term in office.
Ramirez was a 1985 Carrizo Springs High School graduate.
