Tessie’s Two Cents
Dear Tessie,
I enjoy supernatural stories. Ghosts, hauntings, legends…oh, I love it all. I find it incredibly interesting and I love to read about or watch shows about paranormal things.
But for some reason a few of my family members say I’m too old for silly stuff like that.
I just like to enjoy entertaining stories and see if I can learn new stuff. It’s history! Is it really so bad to have a hobby?
Lisa
Dear Lisa,
My friend, have your hobbies. You can’t really be too old, unless you’re a middle aged person trying to squeeze into a toddler playscape. Then you’re really only too big, not exactly too old.
Too old is a very opinionated claim, and you should dismiss it as such. Are you still reading from the YA section? That’s perfectly OK. Do you secretly watch Nickelodeon even without the kids because that yellow sponge man makes you giggle like a child? I hope you enjoy the stress reduction.
Whatever hobby or interest you’ve got, provided there’s no harm being done to others, is yours to have.
Plenty of grown men trade toys at large conventions…they even create large backdrops for posing, and dress up in silly costumes to parade around together. We might not all agree on if it’s “normal”… we might even raise an eyebrow or shake our heads at each other.
Do no harm, enjoy your odd interest. Like rocks? Collect them. Enjoy playing dress up at home, but you’re a grown man? Maybe don’t share stories about it… but to each their own.
Do what you do.
Love,
Tessie
