Peter Salinas
Pedro O. “Peter” Salinas is announcing his candidacy for Sheriff of Frio County.
Salinas is a lifelong resident of Frio County, the son of the late Roger and Eliva Villarreal Salinas of Pearsall, and is married to Erica Garcia Salinas, daughter of Jesse ‘Tute’ Garcia and Maria ‘Connie’ Garcia of Dilley.
Salinas brings over 23 years of law enforcement experience with 21 years serving in Frio County.
He has led two separate law enforcement agencies as their chief of police, first for the Pearsall ISD
Police and more recently for the city of Pearsall. While serving as chief of police, Salinas instituted many enhanced safety initiatives and pursued a community policing model that allowed closer bonds to be built between the department officers and the community.
Salinas currently holds a master peace officer certification, the highest level a Texas Officer can hold from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. He is a certified police instructor, mental health officer, and a certified jail administrator. The vast majority of his specialized training comes in the field of criminal investigations.
As of January 2021, Salinas has been serving as chief deputy for the Frio County Sheriff’s Office.
While at the helm of the sheriff’s office, he has successfully rehabilitated and reopened the Frio County Jail by obtaining state grant funding of over 1.2 million dollars, modernized 911 communications, and obtained specialized training and safety equipment to better protect our local schools.
Salinas advised he will continue to strengthen school safety through advanced training for deputies, enhance officer patrol in crime-impacted areas of the county, and protect county landowners from the wave of criminal smugglers running through our county.
“With your vote and support, I will continue to deliver the professionalism and hard work ethic that our community has come to expect and deserve,” Salinas said.
