Suspect jailed for stabbing family members

Sister and brother-in-law seriously injured

Robert Fernandez

A Pearsall man remains behind bars this week after he reportedly stabbed his younger sister and brother-in-law Friday night.
Frio County deputies say they responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute at 7:38 p.m. Friday, January 26, at a trailer park on Carter Street on the far south side of the city.
According to a report on the case, deputies arrived to find 50-year-old Robert Fernandez drenched in blood. It was later determined the blood on Fernandez was that of his sister and brother-in-law.

Fernandez was immediately cuffed and deputies worked to stop the bleeding on his two victims.
The couple, who were inside the home, appeared to have suffered multiple stab wounds to their upper bodies, the report indicated, and Fernandez’ sister had visible puncture wounds to the back of her head and arms.
“Due to the amount of blood, I advised [the woman] to take a seat,” the deputy noted in his report.
Responding deputies applied a tourniquet to Fernandez’ brother-in-law’s right arm due to a laceration; the man had also sustained a puncture wound to his face.
The woman allegedly told responding deputies that her brother had been the assailant, investigators have said.
A small pocket knife was discovered near the front entrance of the residence.
The woman was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in San Antonio; the man was taken to Frio Regional Hospital by ambulance for treatment of his wounds.
Fernandez remains in custody at the Frio County Jail as of presstime on two felony charges for aggravated assault in family violence; the man was also listed as wanted on an arrest warrant for assault causing bodily injury.
