Alejandro Briseno and Hunter Gonzalez earned top five finishes for their team as Pearsall’s powerlifting squads competed in action at Somerset on Saturday, February 3.
Gonzalez was fourth in the 275-lb. weight class with a total lift of 1,235 lbs. while Briseno was also fourth at 123 lbs., posting a total weight of 840 lbs.
“For having a young group of students this year, they are doing well and improving every meet,” PHS Head Coach Erica Tellez said of her powerlifting group.
Jeremiah Torres finished sixth in the 242-lb. weight class with a total lift of 915 lbs. while Derek Rodriguez came in eighth at 123 lbs.
Ryan Rodriguez was ninth while Dylan Del Toro Ortiz and Goliath Gonzales both took 11th and Martin Rosales finished 13th in his division.
The Lady Mavs also competed at the event as Kyndra McCue was seventh at 181 lbs. and Criselda Perez was 11th at 148 lbs.
The team was in action Wednesday at the Texas Strength Systems meet and will have their final chance to earn regional qualifying lifts on Saturday, February 17 at the Crystal City Invitational.
