Biker behind bars: Torres faces felony, misdemeanor charges

Martin Torres
A Dilley man landed behind bars after he failed to comply with directives from Frio County deputies and then held a woman against her will in a hotel room.
Deputies say that 40-year-old Martin Torres, who was wanted by law enforcement on a warrant for theft, was observed riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the access road shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 22.
It was when a deputy attempted to stop Torres that the man cycled down an alley connecting CR 4601 and CR 4600 in Dilley and was able to flee from deputies through a wooden fence behind a lodge.
According to a report on the case, a witness later reported that Torres and his bicycle were in a room at the lodge.
Sheriff’s deputies and Dilley police officers made several attempts to coax Torres from the room, and the man was later taken into custody.
Deputies learned in witness interviews that Torres had allegedly entered the lodge room and confronted a woman who had rented the room.
The woman had reportedly tried to leave after Torres told her he was wanted by law enforcement, but that Torres had prevented her from fleeing.
According to the report, the woman was able to escape from her captor after 30 minutes.
Torres was transported to the Frio County Jail without further incident and faces a second-degree felony charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and two Class A misdemeanors for evading arrest and unlawful restraint.
