Moreno Park in Pearsall has reopened to the public this month and includes new bathrooms, all new playground equipment, soft-landing playground surfaces, picnic tables with coverings, and a cornhole area.
Construction crews demolished the previous playground equipment in late 2023 after the site failed a code compliance inspection.
The park rehabilitation rehabilitation was funded through a grant awarded to the city by the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation. The foundation awarded the city a $200,000 check to be used for improvements to the west side park.
According to Parks Director Ramiro Otero, the city purchased the park from Dan and Rosa Moreno on February 21, 1962, for $600; prior to the purchase, the area was known as Wagoners Well as it served as the first water supply to travelers through the area.
