DISTRICT 29-4A TRACK & FIELD
Sprint relay team shatters school mark, Mavs win third straight district championship.
Pearsall ran one of its best races of the year and finished second in the mile relay, the final event of the evening, to pull away from Pleasanton and secure a third straight District 29-4A championship in action at the league meet in Floresville last week.
The Mavericks will send 13 athletes to area competition in ten different events as they had athletes place in 13 of 17 total events and garnered gold or silver medals in seven events to secure the track and field ‘Three-Peat”.
“It’s great for our young men and our program to earn another district title,” PHS Head Track Coach Julian Hernandez said. “It’s a culmination of all of their hard work and dedication not just throughout the season, but throughout their high school careers.
“A third district title was one of our goals for the season as a team, and our athletes came out and fought hard for that title. Not only did we have athletes compete for the top spots in their event, but we had guys who fought to get into those spots that would help the team gain points overall.”
Pearsall captured gold medals in the 200m dash, sprint relay and triple jump events but also captured gold and bronze in numerous others.
