Eclipse party offers students opportunity to view rare celestial event
In celebration of Monday’s total solar eclipse, Pearsall ISD hosted a Solar Eclipse Day event at its campuses and high school football field in an effort to allow students and staff the opportunity to immerse themselves in the celestial event.
The solar eclipse of April 8 was a total solar eclipse visible within a band covering parts of North America, from Mexico to Canada and crossing the contiguous United States. The path of totality split through western Frio County.

Pearsall city officials and staff coordinated the event with the school district and provided meals to all district employees.
“Moreover, the city of Pearsall officials went above and beyond by distributing protective glasses to all students and staff, enabling safe viewing of the awe-inspiring eclipse,” PISD Superintendent Dr. Nobert Rodriguez said. “The gesture highlighted the city’s commitment to education and community engagement.
“I’d like to express my profound gratitude to all involved, emphasizing the collaborative effort that made the event successful. I extend heartfelt thanks to parents, community members, county representatives, and school officials for their unwavering support in creating an unforgettable experience.”
Dr. Rodriguez said the goal of the event was to seize the opportunity to not only witness a rare celestial event, but to foster unity and appreciation for the wonders of the universe.
“As the eclipse cast its shadow, it illuminated the spirit of camaraderie and learning within the Pearsall community.”

Pearsall High School sophomores Bralyn Phillips and Dominique Sambrano were among hundreds of students gathered at the football stadium shortly after 12 p.m. Monday, April 8, to witness the rare full solar eclipse. (See related story and photos, inside).
