Pedro Hernandez
A habitual offender wanted on a felony charge found himself behind bars on Monday after his girlfriend attempted to conceal 34 grams of illegal narcotics and a digital scale in her shorts.
According to a report on the case, Frio County deputies on routine patrol initiated a traffic stop on the driver of a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit on Monday, April 15.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Pedro Hernandez, and his passenger, a 34-year-old woman, delayed pulling the pickup truck over, prompting the deputy to request assistance from the department.
Hernandez reportedly told deputies during the roadside interview that he was traveling to Pearsall to visit family. Deputies said they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
It was when the couple was asked to step out of the vehicle that the deputies noted an ‘unusual bulge’ in the woman’s shorts.
According to the arresting deputy, Hernandez admitted that the narcotics the couple had attempted to conceal belonged to him. The woman had a digital electronic scale, 30 grams of methamphetamine, and several bags of cocaine in her pants. Deputies reported that the cocaine measured four grams in weight and appeared to have been packaged for sale.
Emergency dispatch personnel confirmed that Hernandez was listed as wanted on a warrant for making a terroristic threat.
Hernandez was transported to the Frio County Jail without further incident and faces two felony charges for the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
