Cotulla band earns third state title for 2024

The Cotulla High School Mariachi Band has set a record this year for earning three state championship titles, having returned Friday, April 12, with a new trophy from the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators’ (TAME) state contest at Somerset.
Judges at the contest awarded the Mariachi Cotuleño a Division I rating of ‘Superior’ and first place for 3A schools. The award means Cotulla retains the state title its students earned last year.
Band directors have noted that the championship marks a significant victory for the students, who have now taken the state championship trophy in 2024 for the TAME, for the University Interscholastic League, and for the Mariachi Directors Association (TMDA).
The school district has also reported that the high school mariachi band has now earned a state championship for more than ten consecutive years.
