Frio County sheriff’s deputies seized over 28 grams of cocaine after they arrested a San Antonio man south of Pearsall on Friday, July 19.
According to a report on the case, 42-year-old Bobby Martinez was driving his Lincoln SUV along the interstate shoulder before coming to a stop. Deputies stopped to offer assistance shortly after 10:30 a.m. and discovered that Martinez had no driving license.

A drug-detecting canine was summoned to the scene and alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Officers examined the SUV and found two bags of cocaine in the rear passenger seat. A subsequent search revealed drug paraphernalia including a box of sandwich bags, small bags, and a digital scale, a combination of items that investigators believe is indicative of narcotics trafficking.
Martinez was arrested on a first-degree felony charge for the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
“Our deputies are always on the lookout for members of the community who may need our help,” Chief Deputy Peter Salinas said this week. “In this case, this disabled vehicle and stranded motorist led to a drug arrest. The department is happy to have gotten more narcotics off the streets and another possible dealer held accountable.”
