Frio County deputies have launched an investigation into a shooting in Moore, in which a camouflaged suspect lurking in the darkness shot and wounded another man.
Deputies say they were dispatched to a convenience store in Moore shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, in response to a call regarding a man who had been shot.
The victim, who had gone to the convenience store for help, told deputies that he had been struck in the shoulder by gunfire after he went outside his home and saw the man attempting to conceal himself in the dark.
Deputies have reported that the gunshot victim tried to retrieve a knife from inside his home after being wounded but encountered the gunman on his deck and was tripped by him.
Reports filed at the sheriff’s office indicate there have been several disputes between the suspect and victim.
The sheriff’s office is withholding the names of the men involved pending the outcome of an investigation.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to the Moore helipad for an airlift to University Hospital in San Antonio.
Officers examining the victim’s home found a blood trail on a ramp outside the residence.
“We are currently following up multiple credible leads in this case,” Chief Deputy Peter Salinas said Tuesday morning. “We do have a person of interest our investigators are planning to interview. We do not believe this was just some random act. Some information shows this could be a personal attack with a backstory. Working together with Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown and the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, I am confident we can resolve this case and ensure the responsible person is held accountable and that justice is served.”
