HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
Pearsall hosts SA Kennedy, Dilley, Cotulla hit the road to face Crystal City and Devine.
Locals teams will see their first live action of the season this week as Pearsall, Dilley and Cotulla all hit the fields this Thursday for their initial football scrimmages of the year.
All three schools are scheduled for action on Thursday, August 15.
The Mavericks will see live opposition this week from the San Antonio Kennedy Rockets at Mack Laxson Field in Pearsall. Kennedy was once a familiar foe Pearsall as the Mavs played them in the regular season from 2008 to 2013.
The two have not faced each other in 11 years, however.
“We are looking to get live game reps against another opponent,” De Leon said of this week’s workout. “With us being such a young team, we need to learn from every opportunity we can when scrimmaging an opponent this early in the season.
“We also want to see growth from our players continuing to raise our expectations on the field when competing.”
Dilley and Cotulla will both be on the road this week at Crystal City and at Devine.
The Wolves will take the field at Javelina Stadium on Thursday to work out with their Zavala County neighbors while Cotulla heads up the interstate along IH-35 to face the Devine Warhorses.
Teams will have a second scrimmage next Thursday, August 22 before opening the regular season the following week.
Pearsall will hit the road to take on Uvalde at the Honey Bowl while Dilley heads to Wildcat Stadium to scrimmage Carrizo Springs. The Cowboys will host the Poteet Aggies on Thursday at Myers Memorial Stadium in Cotulla.
Regular season play kicks off in two weeks as Pearsall takes on Edison at the San Antonio Sports Complex on Thursday, August 28. Dilley will host Sabinal on Friday, August 29 for Parent’s Night at Gosch Field while Cotulla opens the year with statement game as they play host to Class 2A, Division I #2 state ranked Refugio. The Bobcats were 12-2 regional finalists a year ago.
