Suspects in stolen truck flee from officers
A juvenile narrowly escaped injury on Friday evening after a man driving a stolen pickup truck and his two passengers slammed into a residence on the west side of Pearsall.
Deputies on routine patrol along FM 1581 noticed the registration sticker on a 2001 Nissan Frontier was expired.

ARRESTED: Robert Serrano
Emergency dispatchers confirmed the pickup truck had been reported stolen by the San Antonio Police Department.
According to a report on the case, it was when the deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the driver behind the wheel of the pickup truck began to travel at high rates of speed as it entered the Pearsall city limits. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Robert Serrano, led deputies on a high-speed chase through west side neighborhoods before crashing into a home on Nopal Street.
The two suspects, Serrano and 34-year-old Santiago Leal, attempted to evade arrest; however, deputies were able to locate and arrest the men.
Investigating officers were able to confirm through home video surveillance footage there were three men that fled on foot; as of press time the third suspect has not been arrested.

ARRESTED: Santiago Leal
Witnesses told deputies the two men had fled on foot towards the rear of the home on Nopal Street.
While investigating the scene, deputies discovered Leal attempting to conceal himself under the residence. Leal subsequently surrendered and was arrested.
A further search of the vehicle revealed numerous cellphones and six grams of methamphetamine.
Serrano was later located by Pearsall police officers in a tall, grassy area on the property adjacent to the residence on Nopal Street.
A report on the case noted Serrano required medical attention and was transported to the Frio Regional Hospital by ambulance.
Emergency dispatchers confirmed Serrano had three active warrants for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence.

A damaged Nissan Frontier collided with a home on Nopal St. following a police chase in Pearsall.
Once cleared by medical personnel, Serrano was transported to the Frio County Jail and charged with two Class A misdemeanors for criminal mischief and evading arrest or detention, a state jail felony for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and a second-degree felony for possession of methamphetamine
Leal was transported to the jail without further incident and charged with a Class A misdemeanor for evading arrest or detention.
