Court no-shows, unpaid fines face arrest at home or work
Several area residents who have failed to comply with court orders or citations can expect to be handcuffed and taken to jail in the next three weeks.
Pearsall city and Frio County officials are working with local law enforcement agencies on a warrant round-up scheduled for Friday, October 11.
Anyone in Frio County with an outstanding warrant of any kind (Class A, B or C misdemeanor or a felony) has until Friday, September 27, to settle warrants with the respective authorities.
“If you have an outstanding warrant, please take this opportunity to take care of this before the deadline,” Pearsall Mayor Ben Briscoe said. “Law enforcement will be seeking those with warrants, be it at work or at home. Therefore, I encourage compliance so as to not go through the uncomfortable experience of an arrest and ride to the Frio County Jail.”
According to the mayor, local law enforcement will proceed throughout the county on October 11, within their jurisdiction, to arrest those with outstanding warrants and bring them to the county jail, where they will be formally charged to await magistration.
“The objective is to provide the necessary incentive to those who have side stepped the justice system by non-compliance of their warrant,” Briscoe said. “There will be a series of round-ups here in Frio County to give citizens the opportunity to work within the letter of the law for those who may find it hard to settle up immediately.
“Officials will work with those who prove they need additional time to pay their fines,” the mayor said. “The second round-up will affect those who have not complied with the stipulations provided to them with the first round-up.”
Briscoe said that warrant round-ups are “not new but necessary from time to time” to crack down on those who may have forgotten or do not honor their summons to appear in court.
“Please take heed and settle this up beforehand, as it may be relevant to you or those you may know, as it is being scheduled now to take place,” the mayor said.
