DISTRICT 15-3A, DIVISION II FOOTBALL
Wolves pull away in second half, rout San Antonio YMLA 35-0 to remain perfect in league play.
Dilley overcame a slow start, although San Antonio YMLA never threatened, as the Wolves eventually rolled to a lopsided 35-0 win in District 15-3A, Division II action last Friday.
Bubba Reyes ran for over 100 yards and scored twice while the defense limited the Lions to 107 yards of total offense and eight first downs in the win.
“We came out flat and just moving around slow,” DHS AD and Head Football Coach David Silva said. “We changed the game plan at the half and came out a totally different team.
“YMLA surprised us with their team speed and ability to stop our base (offense) but they couldn’t handle the power schemes we threw at them.”
Dilley led 7-0 at intermission but made adjustments at the half and outscored YMLA 28-0 in the second half, including 21 fourth quarter points.
Quarterback Johnny Rodriguez had the only points of the first half on a one-yard run in the second quarter.
Reyes broke off a 13-yard run in the third to make it 14-0 and then opened the fourth with a two-yard score.
Isaiah Lambert added a six-yard scoring run and Juan Garcia stepped in front of an errant Stockdale pass and returned it 27 yards for a defensive touchdown.
Dilley controlled the game’s tempo and time of possession as they ran 70 offensive plays to YMLA’s 50 plays. The Wolves rolled up 293 yards of offense and 19 first downs. The bulk of the yardage came via the ground game as the team churned out 203 yards.

The Dilley defense limited Stockdale to 107 yards of offense and eight first downs and forced a pair of turnovers. The unit also limited the Brahmas on third and fourth down, allowing only five of 16 conversions.
Rodriguez, in his first year as quarterback, continues to improve as he was an efficient eight of 13 passing for 90 yards. He did have a pair of interceptions, however, as the passing game remains a work in progress for Dilley.
Reyes led the team with 114 yards on 23 carries with two scores while Lambert added 42 yards on 11 totes and a score. Jacob Lopez also added 31 yards on seven carries.
Armando Gauna had three receptions for 35 yards while Troy Gonzales also hauled in three catches for 31 yards.
In double duty action, Rodriguez led the defense with eight total tackles. Quentin Elizondo finished with seven tackles, including two for a loss and a sack. Leve Lopez also had seven total tackles while Reyes tallies six stops.
Garcia finished the night with five tackles, an interception for a touchdown and a fumble.
Dilley looks to move to 3-0 in league play this week as they host the Stockdale Brahmas. Stockdale is 3-2 this season and coming off a 6-0 loss to Cotulla. The Brahmas are 1-1 in district as they topped YMLA 42-7 two weeks ago.
“Stockdale’s Slot-T offense is an offense that you have to be disciplined with and read keys,” Silva said of the Brahmas this week. “We have to continue being the aggressor and force a physical game. Offensively, we still hang our hat on our offensive line being the dominant group.”
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Gosch Field.
