Chocolate Cinnamon Bars

From St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church Cookbook, 1997

Ingredients:
2 C. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking power
4 tsp. cinnamon
1⅓ C. sugar
½ C. butter
½ C. shortening
1 egg
1 egg, separated
1-6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
½ C. chopped walnuts
Instructions:
Sift flour; measure and sift again. Add baking powder, 1 cup sugar and 3 teaspoons cinnamon. Add butter, shortening, 1 egg and 1 egg yolk; blend well. Turn into a greased jelly roll pan or large cake pan; spread evenly. Beat egg white slightly; brush over mixture. Combine remaining ⅓ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, chocolate chips and nuts. Sprinkle over top. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Cool and cut in bars.
